Those were words of someone who had been promised to and it had been broken. Maybe it was why Bruce didn't make promises anymore; he would break them if he did. There was no point in being promised to, either. He tended to break whoever made them.
They both knew it was a lie, but it was a comfort for Tony, so Bruce let it slide. So, instead, he just shrugged his shoulders. "It wasn't that simple." Quiet, staring down at the pizza box and debating another piece. "I might have changed back, but I wasn't really me, yet." His lips thin at the end of those words, deciding to go for it but mostly, the sickly memory of changing back and laying there, broken inside and out.
Three months, in his opinion, wasn't so bad in coming back from the dead, even if it wasn't a physical one.
