“Well you know how it goes. Sold the tower, found a Boy Wonder, helped implement a law, tried to kill Cap, been looking for you, got briefly engaged and here we are.” Tony shrugged as if it wasn’t much of a story, despite everything he had laid out. “Moved your lab to the southwest sector of the compound, by the way. And all your stuff that I gave you, that’s there too. Figured you’d be back someday.”

And that was a lie. The moment Bruce had put that quinjet into stealth mode, not even Tony had been able to track it. He’d done that by design, mostly because Ultron had sort of ruined the fun of Tony being the best (and worst) spy in the world. He’d never expected Bruce to take off. And he had no idea why either.

But for now, he wasn’t going to ask.

“Like the cut,” he was saying, talking as always just to hear his own voice and fill the silence. “Very Army. Going back to your roots?”
