It was dark out and so the shadows on his face were deep and his whole faces looked tired all of a sudden. “I don’t know if I want to talk about it,” Tony said softly. “I over reacted. And I made some mistakes. But I’m not ready to claim any of them yet.”

And he was not going to tell Banner how he drunk dialed the burner phone that Steve sent him every once in awhile to listen to Steve answer and breathe. They would just be silent for ten minutes or so, sometimes longer, before Steve said his name and Tony hung up.

It was a game of chicken. A miserable game of chicken.

“Let’s talk about anything else. Like... I don’t know. Seen any good movies lately?” Tony wasn’t good at small talk.
