The Not So Silent Hill

[Continued from: here]
Staring at the little house, Tony was noteably unimpressed. The child and other half of a god (however loosely you wanted to use the term) really ought to have not been so...small. He was expecting more, and the way he stood with his hip out and arms crossed proved it. They'd take a quinjet to the nearest open field and one of Tony's smaller cars after that, loaded into the back of the plane after he'd ripped out a few seats.
With Extremis stable enough to exist in several now fire-breathing and extra strong mice rampaging through specially designed cages to contain them, JARVIS' databases and hacking ability getting them the information they needed to arrive here, and Alessa more or less content with the nurse she and Banner picked out, this had been the next logical step. Even so, he expected it to be a little more difficult.
Wearing a black t-shirt and dark jeans that only accentuated his somewhat femininely proportioned hips and backside, Tony Stark was still Tony Stark and flashiness and he went hand in hand.
Like a brand name.
It didn't help that the yellow convertible was parked across the street, in direct contention with the overall look and feel of the neighbor around it.
"You can knock." He wasn't too keen on touching things other people did.

Date: 2014-07-29 01:38 pm (UTC)He was not as strong as Thor was. He never would be.
Even now, this had all been for revenge, not to rule. Ruling... He was terrible at it. It was boring. He couldn't help but find the plight of the kingdom anything but worthy of his time and his effort. "I simply did not want him to be king. He would be a worse ruler than I. But go on. Tell them. I died in Thor's arms. From what he has told me, you are violent and unreasonable. No one would believe you."
The green left his singular blue eye.
"Go now."

Date: 2014-07-29 02:20 pm (UTC)Further posturing would do nothing. Action would.
She vanished, the trinkets she was holding dropping on the ground.
Alessa assumed that Tony and Bruce would disapprove of her cursing all of Asgard, so she would at least try to do something other than that. She could localize her ruining to just Loki. But if no one listened to her? Well, they deserved what they would get, at least in her mind.
She came from the same culture that shrugged its shoulders at the idea of an entire town being punished for one man not killing his son. She wasn’t one to worry about collateral damage.
She reappeared in the healing room, and Bruce, still running tests, didn’t even flinch. He was getting used to her popping in and out. “Please tell me you found something out.”
“Well, I found out he won’t die.”
Bruce let out a soft sigh of relief. “But?”
“But we really should talk to Thor. Has he come back yet?”
no subject
Date: 2014-07-29 05:22 pm (UTC)What was worse, however, was that he felt like he might be forgetting things. Banner...what was his first name? And Ashy...she looked worried when she came back, but he was pretty sure he was putting that emotion on her because her face looked so blank. Was that normal? Projecting like that--
He closed his eyes to clear his head.
As if on cue of hearing his name called, Thor did indeed return with a willowy young man in tow. He insisted, and kept on insisting, that he'd shut up his master's shop for the afternoon. His master was no where to be found, however.
"I am... I am new. I only started my apprenticeship yesterday," the boy said as he followed Thor into the healer's.

Date: 2014-07-29 06:17 pm (UTC)She made a perfect projected model of the amulet between her hands.
“I was just told that it was something he touched that did this. This is what he touched.”
“You were told?” Bruce looked down at her with a furrowed brow. “Who told you?”
“I’m going to need to talk to you and Thor about that in a second,” she said, her voice so flat that Bruce couldn’t help but shiver. It reminded him of the first time they met, when she told him there were rules to obey and consequences for breaking them.
He let go of Tony’s hand reluctantly and went back to his testing. He wished he knew more about neurology.

Date: 2014-07-30 02:34 pm (UTC)Besides, Thor was getting no where with the small apprentice he had brought with him to the healer's pavilion. The young Asgardian stood back when the Thunderer turned his eyes towards Alessa at the sound of his name.
"What is it you would speak to me of?" Gruff and angry, he had trouble pushing off the malice at the moment, though his restraint was far better than Alessa's.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-30 03:55 pm (UTC)Somehow, she doubted the healers and random Asgardians would react well to the news that the crazy prince they had arrested years ago was actually now their crazy king.
“You remember what you told us about that doomsday prophecy? The part you said would never happen under your watch?” The usurper on the throne part?
Bruce’s hands froze in his work. His throat became dry.
He did not like the implications of that statement.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-30 04:11 pm (UTC)He had done his best to read the old prophecies but giving up his right to the throne and accepting banishment had limited his resources intensely.
It was not smart for a warrior to limit himself. Love, however, even the momentary love of a mortal, had been worth it at the time. It was easier to take the warrior out of Asgard than the warrior out of Thor. Jane, it seemed, would end up suffering no matter what.
The chambers were as Thor had left them, though being in the palace, the potential for ears listening in had grown. Was Loki watching them? It was difficult to predict the Trickster.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-30 05:10 pm (UTC)Bruce was reluctant to leave Tony, but after assurances from the healers, he followed Alessa and Thor. Even all the gorgeous books and knowledge couldn’t keep him from clasping his hands and rubbing his thumb against his knuckles. “Then what is it?”
Alessa looked up at the chambers, at the books and beauty, and raised her hands. Loki isn’t the only one with magic, and his is of frost giants. Heat crept into the room, darkening the light and targeting magic that didn’t belong there, working to melt anything a frost giant might have put there recently, although she didn’t consider warding it from Heimdall, who she knew nothing about. “When Thor told us about Ragnarok, he said that a sign was there being a usurper on the throne of Asgard. He said that he knew for a fact that that wasn’t the case for now. He was wrong. On a related note, your brother is alive and he is the one who cursed Tony.”
Bruce’s jaw clenched. He closed his eyes. He took a deep breath.
He was angry.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-30 08:00 pm (UTC)"Impossible." Thor was visibly disturbed as he stared at Alessa, and a moment later, angry with her. "Do not taunt me. My brother is dead. He died in my arms. You have little right to make such accusations! I am sorry Stark has been injured and we will find a way to rectify this."
He could not believe, not for a second, that his father had been compromised. Again. Or that Loki would choose to fake his death.
Thor, like a wounded bear, let his anger and rage out in a single vocalization, his fingers gripping the side of a beautifully wrought dresser. "Your lies will not be tolerated!" And yet, he knew it his heart, this was truth.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-30 08:40 pm (UTC)“I’m a lot of things. I’m mean and bitter and angry. But I’m not a liar.”
It was true, after all. Lies only left behind superficial hurt. Truth was what cut the deepest. Truth was the only thing Alessa dealt with.
“He made a deal with me not to say anything if he let us pass in and out. But he cursed Tony, so I’m not going to keep to that.”
“When did you figure this out?” Bruce asked, taking long, deep breaths and struggling to remain calm.
“As soon as we got into the palace the first time.”
“And you didn’t TELL US?” Bruce punched the wall, and for a brief moment, green flashed around his pupils, before he immediately withdrew, walking to the other side of the room and turning his back to them both. He breathed. Focused on reining everything in, and not on the horrible pit of rage and self-loathing that had suddenly appeared in his stomach. For a heart-sinking moment, he had wanted to hit her. Hit her for letting them all walk into the lion’s den.
His disgust and horror at himself helped him stop focusing on how angry he was.
Alessa stared at his back, her expression completely neutral. “His lies are keeping the planet stable.” She looked up at Thor. “But they won’t for long. He’s letting grudges get ahead of the good of Asgard. People will die if he stays on the throne.”

Date: 2014-07-31 01:21 am (UTC)Loki-as-Odin? That was a far more pressing concern of his, something he could wrap his head around at least.
While Thor was rampaging, Bruce and Alessa still had a very important member of their family ailing. What, exactly, were they to do with that? Thor couldn't help with a cure to a curse. And Tony...Tony could not live the way he was.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 01:40 am (UTC)But Tony wasn't so easy to fix.
After Thor stormed out, Alessa approached Bruce quietly, her expression still neutral. "I know what you wanted to do."
He tensed up, curling in on himself and covering his face with his hands.
"You don't need to feel so guilty about it. I understand." She began to back away again. "Tony needs us."
Bruce took a deep breath, then scrubbed his eyes with the heels of his hands before crossing his arms and nodding.
As soon as they got back to the healer's room, Alessa leaned over Tony and Bruce shoved all his feelings into a little black box while he started talking to healers.
"We found out that this is a curse. We don't have curses like this on Earth, so what do you usually do to fix those?" he asked.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 02:13 am (UTC)And memories too, but a few days... Surely even Tony could part with that in order to be able to think again.
The youth scrambled out of the room before anyone could give him leave to do so, hoping to restore a little faith in himself to the others so that they may forget that he could well be to blame for keeping the unmanned shop open.
It would only be a few minutes before he returned, luckily, holding the swirling pink mist captured in a vial out to the healer.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 02:22 am (UTC)"If he loses too many memories, I can try to replace them," Alessa offered. At Bruce's skeptical look, she said, "He leaves them lying everywhere. It's just a matter of helping them go back in."
Another skeptical look.
"I'll ask him before I try?"
Okay, Bruce could live with that. He wasn't sure if he trusted Alessa to have the control needed to not burn out Tony's brain, and hopefully the man will be done with magic fiddling with his brain.
"If it's the best we have, we should try it," Bruce said tentatively, taking Tony's hand tightly.

Date: 2014-07-31 02:33 am (UTC)In the movies and in books, having one's mind cleaned out a few days back was a simple task that left the victim -- or patient in this case -- blacked out and sleeping merrily. In reality, however, it left Tony screaming until his throat was too raw, tears streaming down his face, and a confused look upon the dissipation of the pink mist from his nostrils.
"Where am I," he choked out, panicking. "Where am I?!"
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 02:51 am (UTC)He didn't immediately grab for Tony's hand, even though he wanted to desperately. Instead, he kept himself calm and his voice soothing. "You're going to be a little confused, but Alessa and I are right here, okay?"
Alessa leaned over his table, looking him up and down. "He's speaking okay again."
Honestly, she was relieved. More than she could really say. It was just hard to tell with how little expression she had for intense emotions.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 02:58 am (UTC)His eyes drifted up and held Bruce's, especially once he caught the fear in his friend's eyes.
There would be a lot more to worry about later. Some of the things missing were extremely important. But they could deal with that after all of this was over. He tried to take a deep breath, though he felt like coughing. Something thick was in his lungs. It was...annoying.
"Can I get up now, Doc?"
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 03:07 am (UTC)Alessa, for her part, propped her head in her hands and rested her elbows on the table next to Tony's arm. "We came here because Thor said they could fix the body. It's in the other room."
"Then something happened and you were cursed."
"And I think we just fixed it." Alessa looked over Tony's head and gave the apprentice a little nod of approval. That was tantamount to her giving him a hug.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 03:26 am (UTC)Yep, there it came. Lunch and all of it's glory was left on the floor between his legs. He wasn't proud of that. In fact, he looked pretty damned embarrassed.
"Send me the bill," he groaned, trying to get off of the table without stepping in his own sick.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 03:32 am (UTC)Instead, he immediately took Tony's arm, giving him support as he tried to get up from the table. "Be careful. You're still recovering."
As for Thor...
He and Alessa exchanged quick glances. "We're going to talk to Thor later. What's the last thing you remember?"
He needed to gauge how much he needed to fill Tony in on. Hopefully, it was just a few days, like the apprentice said. A few days, they could handle.
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 04:06 am (UTC)A sudden closing of his throat made Tony attempt to clear it twice before he smiled, only to have that smile fall away like petals in the wind.
"Actually... I really don't remember, Banner. I was buying you a pair of stretchy pants... And shouldn't you be in India dodging my sat phone calls?" But he knew Alessa?
How was that possible.
"I need a mint."
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 04:15 am (UTC)There was no way that could be good.
"No. No, I came back from India after you invited a terrorist to your house. That was a while ago."
Alessa's face was neutral as she walked closer, but in her head, she was wondering if she would just go ahead and curse the shit out of things even if Thor killed Loki.
"That was before you met me." She looked up at Tony, her expression blank as ever. "Do you remember how we met?"
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 04:20 am (UTC)Alessa's question didn't quite make him flinch, but it was somewhat disturbing just the same.
"We... Banner and I, we met you in Silent Hill," he said, glancing at Bruce. "But that happened-- Okay, did I get hit on the head or something? Did someone drug my drink? Not. Cool. Just so you know, it's also illegal."
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 04:30 am (UTC)Alessa, however, was right up in his space, however. She has no sense of personal space.
"No, someone cursed you and you started touching everything like a little kid when we went into a magic store." Yes, Alessa's tone was curt, but that was how she expressed worry. She had a bad feeling she knew exactly what Loki had tried to take away. "Tell me what happened when we both talked alone for the first time. What were we talking about?"
no subject
Date: 2014-07-31 04:50 am (UTC)Alessa knew how to play chess already. Tony gave her pointers but he hadn't taught her anything. Even so, his mind now clearly supplied him with memories of sitting down at a table going over how pawns moved and what castling meant.
In reality, he'd been in a cage for his own protection, under the courthouse, in Alessa's domain. And yet, he remembered none of that.
